How It Works

About how I photograph the dogs

Kelpiegallery presents photos of adult Australian kelpies. The dogs are presented with pedigree names, parentage, coat color, date of birth, country of origin and importing country, as well as a link to Kennel Meringa's Online Kelpie Database.

The purpose of Kelpiegallery is to show the diversity of the dog breed. I photograph all Australian kelpies, regardless of color, hair type, pedigree or merit.

Preparations By You

If you want your kelpie photographed, first read the guidelines and how I prioritize the dogs, further down this page. Then, take a look at Kelpiegallery's Facebook page, you’ll see where and when I travel for a photo shoot. If you have questions about the photography session itself, I recommend reading the FAQ page. If you are interested in inviting me to your own event, please send me an email, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Teach your kelpie to stand still for several seconds. It helps me a lot during the photo session if your kelpie can stand still and straight, all four paws on the ground, a little longer than one second. Preferably your kelpie should stand with "one paw in each corner".

Bring a really good treat or a toy your kelpie likes to the photo shoot.

During The Photo Shoot

I take two types of pictures of the dog, a portrait picture of the dog's head and a picture of the whole dog from the side. You may have the dog off or on a leash/lead depending on the situation. If the dog is on a leash, I will edit the leash out in Photoshop.

I always bring an extra leash which you can borrow for the photograph if needed. Look at the photo session as a fun exercise with your kelpie. If you are relaxed, your dog will be relaxed. I will explain what to do for the best possible results - step by step.

Guidelines

The kelpie should be of the dog breed Australian kelpie.

The kelpie should be registered in an FCI-recognized kennel club.

The kelpie should be 12 months or older.

Priority

I would like to photograph as many kelpies as possible. However, sometimes there is no time to take photos of all dogs that happen to be in the same place and time, or the opportunities just run out. Therefore, I have set a priority list in which order I would like to photograph the dogs.
  • Australian kelpies not already photographed for the Kelpiegallery.

  • Australian kelpies living far away from where I live (i.e., Halmstad, Sweden).
  • Australian kelpies in more unusual colours.
  • Australian kelpies, older ones rather than younger ones, if I get the opportunity to meet the younger ones at another time.
  • Australian kelpies already photographed in the gallery.
  • Working kelpies.
  • Australian kelpies younger than 1 year.
